2008 an eventful year for online Gambling.

January 7th:

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alister Darling comes under increasing pressure from gaming bosses to stop the tax rises on the UK industry.

Neil Goulden chief executive at Gala Coral, said: “The message we are giving the chancellor and the prime minister is ‘if you give us the same tax treatment as other gambling industries, it will be an investment that will drive up admissions’.”

February 15th:

Airbus consider turning one of their aircraft into a flying casino. The A380 superjumbo jet would contain poker and free UK roulette tables as well as slot machines.

March 12th:

888 launch new online sports bookie to join their poker and casino products. Brand marketing director Matt Robinson said in a statement "the entrance into the sports betting market represents a significant milestone in the progression of our diversified, multi-channel strategy to grow customer reach and appeal globally".

April 17th

Poland decide to Regulate online casino games gambling to aid their struggling economey. France also considers doing the same.

28th May

William Hill Bingo Advertisement banned by ASA. William Hill said that “the woman's behaviour (in the ad) was light-hearted and did not portray, condone or encourage socially irresponsible behaviour or behaviour that could lead to financial, social or emotional harm".

20th June

Sky announce the launch of their new interactive bingo game on Sky TV that allows users to play their favourite bingo games while watching TV at the same time." Bingo continues to grow in popularity in the UK and we are thrilled to be the first to bring bingo to TV audiences,” said Edward Moss, Sky’s marketing director.

1st July

Scotty Nguyen, poker professional, wins his fifth World Series of Poker bracelet and almost $2 million in the $50,000 buy in H.O.R.S.E. tournament.

7th August

Online Bingo operator Sun Bingo announce they will be redesigning a relaunching their site. "We’re excited to be re-launching our Sun Bingo with such an established online gaming partner in Gamesys,” said Barry Sage, head of gambling at News Group Digital.

29th September

Sky Bet to introduce mobile betting Service using the Mfuse Platform. Richard Flint, Managing Director for Sky Betting and Gaming said in a statement, “We chose Mfuse because they have the most experience in producing a mass market and robust solution, which is essential for Sky Bet"

20th October

William Hill launch new online bingo sites. New software is used and new promotions are added.

11th November

Danish poker pro, Peter Eastgate win's WSOP main event beating Russian Ivan Demidov. The Dane takes home an impressive $9 million in winnings.

December 22nd

Online poker and gambling site such as Zosoz.com shut down after struggling in the economic recession. Many operating profits are hit as net gaming revenue falls for many.
